The Canadian County Juvenile Detention Center is housed inside the Gary E. Miller Children’s Justice Center. It serves as a safe and secure holding facility for juveniles who have been arrested and are waiting to proceed through the court process or who have not yet been placed. The detention center is not a treatment facility, but mental health programs and trainings inform staff in providing trauma-informed care. A very strict and structured but fair philosophy helps residents see the benefits of staying out of trouble with the law, staying off drugs, and staying in school.

The detention center is a 28 bed, secure facility which opened in August of 1999. Canadian County reserves 22 of the beds for local County residents only, however 10 beds are contracted out to the Office of Juvenile Affairs to be used. Since the opening in 1999, the facility has not experienced a resident escape, suicide, or serious injury to a resident or staff member who was performing the duties of an officer. Detention center staff are dedicated to helping juveniles for the betterment of Canadian County, as well as the State of Oklahoma.
